The IND vs AUS Test Series gets underway in Nagpur on February 9th. But the big concern for coach Rahul  Dravid will be selecting an opening partner for skipper Rohit Sharma. KL Rahul and Shubman Gill are the two players who will be battling for the opening slot. IND vs AUS Test Series: Gill vs Rahul batting records

During the Test series against Bangladesh, Shubman Gill smashed his maiden Test century in the first match at Chattogram. The youngster even looked at ease against the spinners during his scintillating innings. KL Rahul on the other hand had a forgetful series with the bat against Bangladesh. He scored 57 runs in the entire series at an average of 14.25. Speaking about KL Rahul stats at home, the opener has has much better numbers compared to Gill. The Karnataka cricketer averages 44.25 in 22 Test innings and has the average for the most consecutive half-centuries (7).

Gill on the other hand has played 11 Test innings scoring 263 runs at an average of 26.30. He has two half-centuries to name and has failed to convert his starts into big scores.  Rahul is likely to pip Gill for the opening slot having a solid experience at home. Another factor that gives Rahul the edge is the backing from the team management as the vice-captain of the Test side.

Team India look to defend Border Gavaskar Trophy

Team India players have jetted to Nagpur where they will begin their preparations for the opening Test of Border Gavaskar Trophy.  Australia on the other hand have already arrived and started preparations to acclimatize to the Indian conditions.

Indi are the current holders of the Border Gavaskar Trophy having  beaten Australia 2-1 in 2020–21. With a spot in the WTC Final at stake, the India vs Australia series is expected to be a cracking affair. Speaking of the upcoming series following the match at Nagpur, both the teams will then play the rest of the Test matches of the series at Ahmedabad, Dharamsala, and Delhi.
