IND vs AUS: Dravid Virat Kohli Interview: Virat Kohli 75th Ton – Virat Kohli opened up to Rahul Dravid about the construction of his Ahmedabad 186 against Australia. Kohli displayed grit, determination, and character to score a Test ton after 1205 days. The former captain did not score a lot of boundaries to get to the century and played defensive cricket for a major part of the match. While the right-hand batter’s 75th hundred was lauded by one all, Kohli said to Dravid that he felt confident scoring a big hundred owing to the different ways he can adapt and play according to the situation. IND vs AUS: Kohli credits patience for batting long hours during Ahmedabad Test, says that’s the template he has played Test cricket
Not one or two sessions, Kohli batted for a whopping six sessions to score 186. This was one of his slowest Test innings, and the former India batter said patience was the key to scoring runs on the Ahmedabad wicket. Like Sachin Tendulkar’s epic knock of 241 against Australia in Sydney, Kohli controlled his natural instinct to bat aggressively and played according to the situation, as Australia bowlers bowled tight lines and lengths.
‘As far this innings was concerned I knew that I was playing well even in the Test matches before. To be fair, it was a really good wicket to bat on, but Australians utilized the wicket well. They were consistent with their line and lengths in the little rough created by Starc and Lyon. They had a 7-2 field. I had to trust my patience defence. That’s the template I have played Test cricket with. My defence is my strongest point. The boundaries were not easy to come by, and I was happy scoring ones and twos and score a hundred,” Kohli said.

Kohli also elaborated on adapting to different conditions like rank turners, bouncy pitches, and flat pitches and said the key to success is adjusting to the pitches and playing according to the situation.
“You can’t have the same mindset all the time You need to adjust according to the conditions that are in front of you. This is one of the main reasons why I have been able to play all formats of the game. Adaptability comes from physically doing things mentally in many different ways. Mentally I can prepare to play a certain way. Even in these conditions, I can back to run six doubles. That’s why I can bat in different conditions and situations.”
Kohli concluded to Dravid by saying that not scoring a Test hundred for long bothered him, but not converting that 40s into a big score bothered him, rather than milestones. “A hundred that happens along the way within my goal, which is to bat as long as possible for the team and get as many runs as possible. Milestone is not my focus, but to be brutally honest it does get complicated because the moment you step outside the hotel right from the bus driver to the guy at the lift everyone speaks about getting a hundred.”
