Understandably, Zampa is a disappointed man and it is reported that he was told that he was close to selection for the Test tour of India. The spinner, who has had a tremendous run in the white-ball formats in recent years has now cast doubts over his future in Test cricket.
“I was close. I got told from George Bailey and Andrew McDonald that it was one of the toughest (decisions) they had to make for the tour. I’m very disappointed, I would have loved to be on it,” said Zampa.
Leading white-ball spinner for Australia, Zampa, pushed hard to be included in the 18-man team that played in the Sheffield Shield for the first time since 2019. In meetings with selectors and national coach Andrew McDonald, it was mentioned that his style of leg-spin could be “handy” in India after he took three wickets for NSW against Victoria at the SCG in December.
However, the 30-year-old Rajasthan Royals spinner was left “flat” when he wasn’t one of the four spinners chosen in the team, along with leg-spinning rival Mitch Swepson and uncapped Victorian Todd Murphy, suggesting selectors altered their minds about Zampa.

Adam Zampa said “I was really excited to be on this tour. I thought I’d give it a crack and the messaging was my style of bowling might have been handy over there “But potentially last minute there was a change of mind.”
With his test dream seemingly crushed and no more subcontinent tours scheduled until 2025, Zampa wasn’t sure if he would continue playing red ball cricket.“I don’t know what’s next for me. It’s two and half years until the next subcontinent tour,” he said.
“I’m not going to close the door completely. Life is always about balance and I have a family … I have to think about what’s best. I’ll have those chats to see what the next little bit look likes for me, what’s best for them and myself as well.” Zampa added
Zampa plays for Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League. He has represented Australia in 76 ODIs and 72 T20Is, having made his debut in February 2016.
