Is Mohammad Shami really fit? – Going by the last over he bowled, he seems to be fully fit. But the team management did not want to rush him in. Instead, they wanted to take it easy and Shami was only given an over to bowl.
Mohammad Shami’s RETURN: How did it go?
- Ball 1: Shami started with a full-toss after missing the yorker and gave Cummins a couple of runs.
- Ball 2: Shami did well with the 2nd delivery, nailing the yorker. But Cummins manage to take a couple once again.
- Ball 3: WICKET! Shami missed the length and Cummins hammered the low full toss. But as it was sailing to the boundary, Virat Kohli plucked it out of thin air with a one-handed stunner.
- Ball 4: WICKET! Ashton Agar tried to steal a run but it was an easy picking as Shami ran him out.
- Ball 5: WICKET! Shami bowled a beautiful yorker to clean up Josh Inglis’ stumps.
- Ball 6: WICKET! Another perfect yorker and Shami clean bowled Kane Richardson to finish his spell with 3/4.
Unimpressive nets session: Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid didn’t think Shami was at his 100% after an unimpressive nets session.
Shami was chosen by the selectors to take Jasprit Bumrah’s position. But the 32-year-old speedster from Uttar Pradesh wasn’t able to impress much at his first training session in Australia on Sunday.
Shami was tasked with bowling to teammate Dinesh Karthik. Shami who was in full stride was repeatedly taken to the cleaners by Karthik.
Not even once Shami could beat Karthik in 30 minutes. The seasoned pacer dismissed the Indian wicketkeeper-batter only when he carelessly attempted to play a scoop shot.

Visibly unimpressed Team’s bowling coach Paras Mhambrey was seen having a discussion with Shami after the session.
It is worth noting that Shami not only has not played any active cricket in past few months – but was also down with Covid-19. Concerns around his fitness was the biggest headache for the Indian team at the World CUP.
The reports coming in from Australia suggests that Shami will be played on Monday in the WARM-UP match. His fitness will be completely assessed and call on his inclusion in match against Pakistan on October 23rd will be taken.
The bowler will also get another chance vs New Zealand on October 19 before India’s official T20 WC opener vs Pakistan on October 23.
As for the match, A brilliant knock from KL Rahul and a three-wicket haul masterclass by Mohammed Shami helped India inflict a 6 runs defeat on Australia. India bundled out hosts for 180 in the T20 World Cup warm-up match at the Gabba.
