IND vs AUS: Border Gavaskar Trophy – Australia are back to square one on their tour of India. The visitors had a predatory camp in Syndey and in Bengaluru but all their efforts fell flat as India romped to a 2-0 series lead inside 6 days. Pat Cummins and Co were culpable for some terrible shot-making as 6 batsmen lost their wickets playing the sweep in Delhi. The collapse gave calls for Matthew Hayden to be added as a batting consultant given his incredible record in India. Now, head coach Andrew McDonald has given the green light for the same with two tests to go. Follow India vs Australia LIVE Updates on Insidesport.IN

IND vs AUS: Head coach Andrew McDonald gives GREEN LIGHT for ‘Sweeping genius’ Matthew Hayden to be hired as batting consultant as Australia desperate to avoid whitewash – Check out

Australia are 0-2 down and are staring at a chastening series whitewash as India has gatecrashed its tour. The visitors folded inside 92 minutes as they lost 52/9 in just one session. Australia tried to sweep away Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin but was left to pick up their dust as India retained the Border Gavaskar Trophy.

Such was the catapulting that Matthew Hayden mocked the Australians by himself bringing out a broom at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. A master of the sweep shot, Hayden had some words of advice for the touring party, urging them to use the shot correctly.

The former opener himself used the shot to great effect, scoring 1027 runs in India in Tests.  His average of 51.35, is under 1 run lesser than what Australia lost their nine wickets for in Delhi.

“It’s a good option here but you need to know how. Can’t get too far beside the line. Need to come along the line of the ball. I’m never a big fan of saying don’t sweep. I think that’s the wrong mentality because you already saw how productive the shot was. I’m just saying don’t sweep every ball,” Matthew Hayden said after the match.

Hayden is part of the Star Sports commentary panel after a recent stint with the Pakistan team as a batting consultant. Babar Azam’s side reached the t20 World Cup finals in Australia losing to eventual champions England. Many believe hiring Hayden as a batting consultant for the rest of the tour could solve some of Australia’s woes against spin.

Former Australia captain Michael Clarke said bringing Hayden on board was a ‘no brainer’.

“Something so simple. You’ve got Matthew Hayden in India at the moment commentating and Mark Waugh as well. They’re at the ground. So it’d be a no-brainer to go to someone like Matthew Hayden, who is a massive sweeper. He’s probably the only Australian batsman that has had success sweeping in India,” Michael Clarke said on the Cricket Et Cetera podcast.

“These batters, go and took to Haydos, who’s a sweeping genius because he’s telling you not to sweep. I feel we’re a little bit nervous to get outside help because it might be a little critical,” Clarke added.

Andre McDonald after the second test admitted that his side was deserving of the criticism after the manner of their defeats. The Aussie head coach however said that the team was well prepared despite the absence of tour games.

“We were prepared for that and day three as well as we could have been, and we failed under the examination of India,” he said.

However, with the series and their pride at stake, it remains to be seen whether Matthew Hayden swaps the microphone for a coaching manual. The 3rd test begins in Indore on March 1. The visitors have more than a week to decide before the actions resumes in the Border Gavaskar Trophy.
