IND vs AUS: Australian cricket legend Ian Healy has voiced strong opinions regarding Pat Cummins’ captaincy role. After suffering a humiliating Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) loss, Healy has asked under-fire Pat Cummins to drop the burden of captaincy. Former Aussie batter defended Cummins, saying the bowler should avoid “captaincy burnout” and resign from his position as skipper as soon as possible. Former World No 1 pacer has led Australia in Test matches for less than 18 months. Follow India vs Australia Test LIVE updates with InsideSport.IN
“I don’t want him carrying the burden of so much captaincy for too long. I want him to finish (as just a bowler),” Ian Healy told SEN Cricket.

“The captaincy creates a burnout and four to five years is a long time as a captain. He’s done a few years (as Test captain) already, now he’s adding (short-form captaincy) to his thought processes at a time when he’s dealing with some sort of family illness back home.”
“So yeah, I would like to see him finish his career as a tearaway fast bowler and someone else with the captaincy burden,” Healy added.
Cummins was named Test captain in November 2021. As Aaron Finch’s replacement, he was also named ODI captain in late 2017. Although Australia won’t participate in the shortest format any time soon, he is also in line to lead the T20 team going forward.
Cummins is not just the captain of the top-ranked Test team, but he was also the world’s top red-ball bowler until recently.
Many cricketers are apprehensive of the responsibility Cummins, 29, continues to bear despite having a strong winning record in his leadership roles.
