IND vs AFG LIVE: Sunil Gavaskar wants Kohli & Co to play 3 spinners against Afghanistan

IND vs AFG LIVE: 2 wickets in 2 matches, Will Bumrah led Indian bowling finally come good against Afghanistan?

“There is no harm in thinking of going with 3 spinners. And, maybe not have somebody like Shardul Thakur or Mohammed Shami. Go in with 2 seamers and 3 spinners because if Hardik can come in and bowl 2 overs of medium pace,” Gavaskar told India today.

“A top-class spinner like R Ashwin, it doesn’t make any difference whether he is bowling to a right-hander or a left-hander. I would look at someone like R Ashwin. If at all, they are looking for someone who will slow the pace down, they can look at Rahul Chahar,” he added.

  • R Ashwin can join R Jadeja and Varun Chakaravarthy as the third spinner.
  • Gavaskar also suggested to Kohli & Co that even Rahul Chahar could feature in the playing XI.
  • India have so far used 3 seamers and 2 spinners in the first two matches.
  • Spinners are yet to take a single wicket for India in the ongoing T20 World Cup, Jasprit Bumrah is the only Indian bowler among wickets (two scalps against New Zealand).

Meanwhile, Gavaskar also asserted that Rohit Sharma should go back to opening the innings and India should forget what happened in the last match.

“He’s got to bat at the top of the order, it’s as simple as that. Let’s forget what happened in the previous game. You saw that it didn’t work so you’ve got to go with somebody like Rohit Sharma. he’s the kind of batsman that once he plays 15 overs you are pretty much guaranteed to have a [score of] 180-200,” he further stated.

IND vs AFG LIVE: Sunil Gavaskar calls Afghanistan exceptionally dangerous

Gavaskar also highlighted that Afghanistan are extremely dangerous side. They gave a tough challenge to table-toppers Pakistan.

“They are exceptionally dangerous. They are a team that is unafraid to play their shots. They have got mystery spinners. And Indian batsmen in recent times have shown a certain vulnerability when it comes to playing spin, especially back of the hand deliveries. I think they are a banana peel opponent and India should be wary of playing against them.” he signed off.

IND vs AFG LIVE: Sunil Gavaskar slams Bumrah’s ‘bubble fatigue’ statement

Gavaskar has also hit out at Jasprit Bumrah’s statement of bubble fatigue and asked the players to keep National duty first.

“Well look, when you are playing for India, everything has got to recede to the background. It’s as simple as that. It’s an unbelievable privilege and a huge honor to be playing for and representing your country. There are millions who you know, want to get the India cap, the India colors… Nobody should be saying that this [bubble fatigue] is there. There should be no real excuse. You should go out there and give it your best. It’s as simple as that,” Gavaskar stressed.

India cannot afford to make any errors against Afghanistan or they will crash out of semifinals race.
