KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma were restored as the opening partnership for India in their must-win game against Afghanistan, and the duo responded with a record-breaking stand for the first wicket. The Indian openers hit the Afghanistan bowlers to all parts of the ground to bring up India’s first 100-run opening partnership in 21 games after the duo had put on 135 against West Indies back in 2019.
The 140-run opening stand is only India’s second in the T20 World Cup, with Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag having put on 139 against England back in 2007. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul’s partnership is also India’s fourth-highest partnership in T20Is. Incidentally, Rohit Sharma has been involved in all five highest partnerships for India, with two coming with KL Rahul.
