Securing Australia’s position in the third Test of the series, off-spinner Nathan Lyon scalped 8 wickets in the inning. Taking his 9th five-wicket haul against India and 23rd fifer in the Test cricket. Lyon is now only behind Anil Kumble’s 10 in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
After posting a decent lead of 88 runs, Lyon’s spell was effective for the visitors in getting rid of skipper Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and then Ravindra Jadeja, KS Bharat, and Ravichandran Ashwin. With the exception of Bharat, the other hitters were in excellent form going into the Test match and had recently delivered match-winning innings for the Indian Test squad.

Only Cheteshwar Pujara appeared confident and amassed a half-century in Indore’s challenging circumstances. In the first inning of the Test match Lyon assisted Matthew Kuhnemann to fold India for 109 runs. Earlier, Usman Khawaja’s steady 60 on a challenging pitch helped Australia reach 197 runs in the first innings. Where Ravichandran Ashwin scalped three wickets and Ravindra Jadeja took four.
However, Lyon did not have the best start of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, in the first Test match he took just one wicket. With the series at stake, Lyon once more gave it his all and discovered drift and spin in the Indore pitch.
