It was complete mayhem on Day 2 of ongoing India vs Australia Test match at Indore. Earlier, Australia lost 6 wickets in just 34 deliveries as India came to bat in their second innings. Such was the condition of the pitch that the entire Indian team was bowled out at the end of the day after having managed just 163 runs.

Nathan Lyon was the star of the show for the Aussies after he picked a eight-fer to crumble the entire Indian batting order. This was Lyon’s 9th fifer against India and 23rd overall in his career. Cheteswar Pujara played a gritty fifty to help India put some runs on the board. Now, on Day 3 India will have to defend 75 runs for a victory.

To do so, India will have to break a 141-year Test cricket record. The lowest Test target was defended by the Aussies back in 1882 where they went onto defend 85 runs. With the pitch offering no assistance to the batters, the onus will be on Ashwin, Axar and Jadeja to weave their magic on the cracked and dusty Indore pitch.

Naturally, the fans were not happy with the way of how things turned out in Indore. The die-hard fans took to social media to post trolls and memes to criticize the BCCI and pitch curators. On the other hand, former player Dilip Vengsarkar too went on to criticize the conditions of the pitch.

“The pitch makes all the difference if you want to watch good cricket. You must have wickets with even bounce so that both batters and bowlers get equal opportunity. If the ball turns from day one and the first session itself and that too with uneven bounce, it makes a mockery of Test cricket,” Vengsarkar told PTI.

“It takes at least a month to prepare a Test wicket. Pitches too need rest. In this case, there were not even two weeks of time in between the Ranji Trophy semi-final and this game. Before that, there was an ODI played against New Zealand last month. That seems to have contributed to how the pitch is behaving,” said an expert in the know of things. PTI.
