IND AUS Ahmedabad Test: Ahmedabad Pitch Report – The 9-wicket thrashing in Indore has forced BCCI and Rohit Sharma to change plans. Despite wanting to have practice on a lush green surface to prepare for WTC Final, India Cricket Team will stick to turners. The pitch of the IND vs AUS 4th Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy is likely to be a rank turner, similar to the pitch England played on last time. India lead in the series 2-1 and they have to win in Ahmedabad to secure WTC Final spot. Follow India vs Australia LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN.

A confident Rohit Sharma was looking to 3-0 up in Indore. But his high-flying team crashed in the first innings to Matt Kuhnemann’s left-arm spin. India could never recover from there as Steve Smith-led Australia claimed bragging rights to seal WTC Final spot.

“We haven’t received any instructions from the Indian team management and our local curators are preparing a normal track as we have always done through the season,” a state association source told PTI.

Before the start of the 3rd Test, Rohit said he would look for WTC practice on a green top to simulate Kennington Oval conditions.

“There is definitely a possibility of that. We’ve already spoken about it. We need to get the guys ready for it as well. The important one is Shardul Thakur, because he comes into that plan for us. But yeah, that thought process is definitely there. If we do what we do here and we get the result we want, we might think of doing something different in Ahmedabad for sure,” Rohit said.

However, with no instruction from the BCCI or the team management, Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) curators are preparing a good batting pitch. In the last Ranji match at the venue, Railways scored 508 against Gujarat and there were 200+runs for in two other innings. A similar wicket is likely.

“In fact, last Ranji game over here in January, Railways scored 500 plus (508) batting first and Gujarat, although had innings defeat, scored 200 plus in both innings. It won’t be too different this time,” the GCA source said.

Ahmedabad Pitch:

  • Soil: Black soil aiding spin
  • Average first innings score: 338
  • Average 2nd innings score: 337
  • Average 4th innings score: 147
  • Last Test: India vs England – India won by an innings and 25 runs

But with Rohit Sharma making it clear that they won’t change the template of spin-heavy pitches, it is unlikely to be a batting heaven. Instead, when the BCCI curators Taposh Chatterjee and Ashish Bhowmick take over, the remaining grass will be rolled over for a rough black soil surface to emerge.

“Obviously, last few days, the BCCI’s grounds and pitches committee instruct the local curator. But certainly, from our end, our endeavour is to produce a good Test match pitch,” the official said.

The last time, India played a Test at the venue, Axar Patel stole the show and wrapped up England within two days. But the GCA is ruling out such a scenario agains against the Aussies.

“You have to factor in that the Day/Night Test and the one after that were the first ones held after the stadium was refurbished and you had no clue how the pitch will pan out,” he added.

India Squad: Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Ravindra Jadeja, Srikar Bharat (wk), Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, KL Rahul, Mohammed Shami, Ishan Kishan, Kuldeep Yadav, Suryakumar Yadav, Jaydev Unadkat
