ILT20 League- Sunil Narine to lead Knight Riders: Knight Riders has handed additional responsibility to their key spinner Sunil Narine. The Caribbean star will lead Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in UAE T20 League. The West Indian was retained by the team ahead of the IPL 2023 mini-auction and will lead the team in International League T20 (ILT20). The ILT20 tournament is a 6-team League, scheduled to begin on January 13, 2023 in the UAE. Narine expressed excitement over leading the team at the inaugural event in UAE. ILT20 League: Sunil Narine handed captaincy of Abu Dhabi Knight Riders 

Besides playing for Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Narine represents Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). The Mystery spinner has represented KKR in 148 matches in the IPL between 2012 and 2022. He has so picked up 152 wickets in total.

Speaking about leading the team in the ILT20 Narine said, “I’m very excited to take up the role as captain of Abu Dhabi Knight Riders. It’s a new challenge because now I have to think about the functioning of our whole team, rather than just focus on my game or my four overs”.

He added, “I have played a lot of cricket in the UAE, so I know the conditions pretty well. If you look at the ADKR squad, it is a familiar setup, and not a brand new XI that I have to get used to. So that gives me great confidence, knowing the strength of my players. There are a lot of senior guys in the team as well, who I can bounce ideas and information off. It’s going to be a lot of fun, it has been a long journey with the Knight Riders family, and I hope it’s a never-ending one.”

A quick glance at ILT20 League format 

The ILT20 league comprising of six teams will be played in round-robin format. Each team will play two matches, totalling 30 league games. The first game and the championship game, as well as four playoff matches, will all be played at the Dubai International Stadium. The final will take place on On February 12. Besides Dubai, the matches of the inaugural edition will also be played at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi and the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
