The Abu Dhabi Knight Riders have announced their initial squad for the inaugural UAE T20 League, with a host of superstars added to their ranks. Knight Riders, who also own teams in the IPL and CPL, retained their core from both leagues.
Sunil Narine and Andre Russell, KKR’s longest serving players were amongst the first picks for the Abu Dhabi franchise. Jonny Bairstow was the biggest addition, with the England superstar opting for the ILT20 while his peers have signed for the rival CSA T20 League. The England keeper has been in red hot form this year and Abu Dhabi would hope that he can continue his fireworks in the UAE.
West Indian spinner Akeal Hossein, pacer Ali Khan and Seekuge Prasanna were brought in from their CPL franchise, the Trinbago Knight Riders. Veteran Ravi Rampaul and Ireland opener Paul Stirling, were also signed up, having previously featured for the TKR.

The franchise will now add local players from the draft to their squad. The UAE T20 League requires a minimum of 2 local players in the playing XI allowing the teams to play as many as 9 international superstars.
The tournament will kick off in January next year. The ILT20 will clash with CSA’s new T20 League and the Big Bash League. Among the six teams in ILT20, three are owned by IPL franchises.
