ICC WTC Final: 3 major records Virat Kohli can achieve in Ind vs NZ final- Virat Kohli will look to lead India to a historic ICC World Test Championship (WTC 2021) title when they face off New Zealand in the iconic Test at Southampton starting June 18. The India skipper will need to prove himself as India is yet to win an ICC title since he took over MS Dhoni in 2017. But, he has emerged as a successful skipper in the Test arena. He recently led India to a 3-1 series win against England at home.  Besides being a leader, Virat Kohli is a vital cog in India’s batting lineup. As India is set to play against New Zealand next month, here’s a brief look at a few records/ milestone that he can achieve in those matches.

Need 227 runs to complete 1000 Test runs against NZ

Kohli has scored over 1,000 runs against as many as five teams in Test cricket. He has scored 822 runs against West Indies, 773 runs against New Zealand and 392 runs against Bangladesh. The upcoming WTC Final 2021 will also provide him with an opportunity to rise in the ICC Test Rankings among batsmen. He currently ranks 5th while his counterpart Kane Williamson is placed on the top spot. He has already smacked three centuries and an equal number of fifties against Kiwis. The 32-year-old will be aiming to play a match-winning innings against Kiwis in the final.

Most double centuries

Kohli can overtake former Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardena who features in the elite list of players who have scored most double tons.  The India captain is equal with Jayawardena with 7 double tons to his name. A double ton will also help him equal with Wally Hammond (8) to fourth place.

Virat Kohli needs 68 runs to 6,000 runs as skipper

India captain needs just 68 runs to complete 6,000 runs as skipper in the Test arena. Of his 6,000 runs in Test career, Kohli has amassed 5,932 runs as skipper. He only trails Graeme Smith (8659), Allan Border (6623) and Ricky Ponting (6542), should Kohli score 68, he will become the first Indian batsman to make 6000 runs as skipper. Indians in the list are MS Dhoni MS Dhoni (3454), Sunil Gavaskar (3449) and M Azharuddin (2856).

Also, the WTC 2021 Final win will better his record as an India skipper. He currently has 36 wins and 14 losses from his 60 matches as Test captain.
