How did NewZealand reach the semi-finals?
New Zealand clinched three wins in Group 1 from their four matches and the margins of their 89-run win over Australia and 65-run win over Sri Lanka have given them a big edge in the Net Run Rate column too. However, the Kiwis were handed a reality check, with their 20-run loss to England on Tuesday. Their 35 runs win over Ireland meant that the Kiwis booked their spot for the semi-finals.
New Zealand had an advantage in the Group 1, thanks to their massive NRR. Defending champions Australia will have to win by a massive margin in their final Super 12 clash against Afghanistan to give themselves an outside chance to qualify for the semi-finals.
England has finished the group stage in the second position in points table, with three wins in five matches and a total of seven points. They have qualified for the semifinal along with New Zealand. Australia, which also has seven points like England and NZ, have been knocked out of the tournament due to an inferior net run-rate.
