It has not even been a week since the BCCI sold the IPL Media Rights for record Rs 48,390 Crore. Now, the broadcasters will have to shell out another big amount with multiple World Cups scheduled during the 2024-31 cycle. Dinsey-Star bagged the TV rights for Rs 23,575 crore while Reliance-backed Viacom18 bagged the digital rights for Rs 20,500 crore.

But now, it’s time for fresh bidding with Sony and Zee are expected to take centre stage as they returned empty-handed from IPL Media Rights auction. InsideSport takes a look at the past auctions and the broadcasters who bagged the bragging rights for ICC events.

ICC Media Rights 2015-2023: In the past, for the period of 2015-2023, Disney Star had won the global rights for $2.02 billion. Also, STAR India received audiovisual rights for eight years time period from 2015 to 2023. The network has broadcasted numerous ICC tournaments like ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 and 2023, ICC Champions Trophy 2017 and 2021 and ICC T20 World Twenty20 competitions 2016 and 2020 besides the ICC T20 World Cup 2016 and 2021.
ICC Media Rights 2007-2015: The previous edition was an interesting one. For the 2007-2015 cycle, ESPN Star India (a former joint venture) had won the bid for $1.1 billion. Other bidders included Nimbus, who had bid $900 million, Zee had bid $850 million and Ten Sports had bid $825 million. From 2007 to 2015, STAR India was also the satellite broadcaster for ICC events.

ICC Media Rights 2000-2007: The telecast rights for ICC were held with Global Cricket Corporation for 532 million in 2000. Zee had bid $600 million, which was the highest bid, however, did not win the rights and Global Cricket Corporations had won the rights.
At the moment, Disney Star has ICC media rights from 2015 to 2023. For the ICC Media Rights 2024 to 2031, potential bidders are Sony Network, Disney Star and Viacom18.
