Hockey World Cup Opening Ceremony: The Hockey World Cup opening ceremony in Cuttack witnessed some serious fireworks on Wednesday. Bollywood superstar Ranveer Singh, also the showstopper for the night, made the fans groove with his sparkling performance. Nearly 40 thousand fans inside the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack sang ‘HOCKEY HAIN DIL MERA’. There were also notable performances from Bollywood Diva Disha Patni, music composer and singer Pritam. Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik met Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh as he visited Cuttack ahead of the opening ceremony, at the Barabati Stadium, Cuttack. He also shared pictures of his meeting with the Bollywood actor. Ranveer Singh was also seen gifting the Chief Minister a jersey of his name.
Who will perform in the Opening Ceremony?
The show will feature live performances by Ranveer Singh and Disha Patani. They are set to set the stage ablaze with their dance moves. Other top performances planned for the night includes K-Pop Band BLACKSWAN. The members of the band will entrall the crowd and it will also feature Odisha Singer Shreya Lenka’s performance.
The anthem of the World Cup will also be performed LIVE at the Barabati Stadium. Writer and composer of the song Pritam will be taking centrestage. He will be joined by vocalists Benny Dayal, Neeti Mohan, Lisa Mishra, Amit Mishra, Antara Mitra, Sreerama Chandra, Nakash Aziz and Shalmali Kholgade along with Namita Meleka from Odisha.
Traditional performances portraying Odia culture is also set to light up the opening ceremony. Many local Odia stars and performers will be on the stage. Meanwhile Guru Aruna Mohanty and National Award winner Shiamak Davar have choreographed the dance performances for the evening. The cultural program will start from 3 pm tomorrow and will continue till 9 pm.
The FIH Hockey World Cup opening ceremony begins on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. IST (Indian Standard Time) at the Barabati Stadium. Cuttack’s district administration has also announced that schools and colleges will be closed on Wednesday after 2:00 p.m. IST.
Giant LED screens and 16 hockey fan parks have been set up throughout the city to broadcast the opening ceremony live.
“The Celebration is an integral part of the tournament as it symbolizes our pride in both our state and our nation for playing host to the Hockey World Cup for the second consecutive time,” Hockey India president Dilip Tirkey said.
When will the tournament begin?
All the matches will get underway on 13th January, Friday. The tournament is set to feature 16 teams including the hosts India. All the teams are divided into four pools of four teams each. Pool D encompasses India, England, Spain, and Wales.
The group stage matches are scheduled for January 13 through January 20. India’s league get underway on January 13 in Rourkela as they square off against Spain. The match against England will take place on January 15 at the same venue, while the match against Wales will be played on January 19 at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneshwar.
Following the crossover matches on January 22 and 23, the quarterfinals on January 24 and 25, matches for the 9th to 16th positions on January 26 and 28, semifinals on January 27, and matches for the top four positions on January 29 will be the next games.
