Nicholas Pooran showcased exceptional leadership skills and batting prowess as he guided MI New York (MINY) to victory in the first-ever Major League Cricket tournament. Pooran’s outstanding performance saw him score an impressive unbeaten 137 runs off just 55 balls, leading his team to successfully chase down the target of 184 runs against Seattle Orcas (SOR) with four overs remaining in the match. The victory further enhanced the already remarkable legacy of trophy wins for Mumbai Indians.
In a disappointing performance for SOR, Imad Wasim and Wayne Parnell managed to take one wicket each. Seattle Orcas had initially set a target of 184 runs. Opener Quinton de Kock played a brilliant inning, scoring 87 runs off just 52 balls, which included nine fours and four sixes, helping SOR reach a total of 183/9 in 20 overs. On the other hand, MINY’s Rashid Khan and Trent Boult impressed by taking three wickets each during the match.

Pooran took over the captaincy for MI New York during the tournament due to Kieron Pollard’s injury. His century became the third-fastest by a West Indian player in T20 cricket. The only quicker centuries were achieved by Chris Gayle, who scored a hundred in just 30 balls for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2013, and Johnson Charles, who reached a ton in 39 balls while playing for West Indies in South Africa earlier that year.
