As for the match, Abdullah Shafique entered the record books, guiding Pakistan to a brilliant 4-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the 1st Test. Shafique remained unbeaten on 158 as Pakistan chased down record 342 runs at Galle to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series. It was Pakistan’s second highest run-chase in Test cricket.

Overnight at 222/3, Pakistan needed 120 more on Day 5. Mohammad Rizwan and Abdullah Shafique began cautiously. But the 71-run stand finally came to an end when Prabath Jayasuriya removed him. Soon, Agha Salman and Mohammad Azam too followed suit. However, Shafique carried his bat, guiding Pakistan to victory. It was also the highest run-chase in Galle.
