Chasing a low total of 186, Bangladesh’s innings started off on a poor note. Opener Najmul Hossain Shanto got out in the very first ball of the innings, edging an out-swinger from Deepak Chahar to first slip. However skipper Liton Das steadied the ship with a 41-run knock.

At one stage Bangladesh looked all set for a comfortable victory. They were 128/4 by the 35th over with the experienced Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah on the crease. But things went awry as a spirited Indian bowling saw them collapse in the run chase.

Mahmudullah and Rahim were dismissed off successive deliveries by Shardul Thakur and Mohammad Siraj . Soon after their dismissals, Bangladesh lost three more wickets with just eight runs added to the board as the scoreboard read 136/9. Their dressing room looked gutted and fans in the stadium were disappointed at this point in time.

However, Mehidy Hasan Miraz was a man who looked determined to take Bangladesh home and changed the script of the contest. He was not afraid to play his shots. He slammed two sixes in the very next over off Kuldeep Sen to bring life back into the contest. With 29 required off seven overs, he slammed three boundaries off Deepak Chahar in the 44th over to add spice to the contest.

While Hasan was determined at one end, at the other end Mustafizur looked calm and composed. He played a solid supporting role as they kept the scoreboard ticking. The pair soon brought the equation down to 8 runs off the final 5 overs.

Deepak Chahar ran in to bowl the 46th over and the first ball was smashed to the fence by Mehidy Hasan. Fans in Dhaka roared in delight as the victory was now just a shot away. Mehidy ensured there were no further drama as he levelled the score soon. In the final delivery off the over, he hit a boundary through covers to seal the victory for the Men in Green.

“I am really happy and excited. I was only thinking about focusing on one area and believing in that strategy. I knew I only needed to bat about 20 balls to get going. I tried to bowl wicket to wicket with the ball. It is a memorable performance for me,” said Mehidy who was adjudged Man of the match for his 38 run knock.
