Henry Cejudo Juxtaposed With Jon Jones and GSP as His Coach Outlines Long Layoff Ahead of UFC 288

In the run-up to the fight, Cejudo’s MMA coach made a comparison between him, Jon Jones, and Georges St-Pierre, two of the most legendary fighters in UFC history. And the comparison is not without merit. Both Jones and St-Pierre took significant time off from the sport before making their triumphant returns. Consequently, Cejudo hopes to follow in their footsteps and cement his legacy as one of the greatest fighters of all time.

You know Henry has been off for little under 3 years and he is coming back kind of the same situation that Jon Jones came into just a few weeks ago. It’s gonna be interesting to see how Henry does compared to GSP who took time off and fought for the title, Jon Jones who took time off fought for the title. If he wins this Him, Jones and GSP they are on their own mount olympus.” The coach said in a recent UFC embedded vlog series video. (Check out the below video from 2:20)

Cejudo last fought in May 2020, defeating Dominick Cruz via TKO to retain the UFC bantamweight title. Like GSP and Jones, Cejudo will be returning after an extended layoff to immediately fight for UFC gold. GSP returned after 4 years away to defeat Michael Bisping for the middleweight title in 2017. Jones recently defeated Criyl Gane in his return fight after 3 years away to claim his first heavyweight title.

But the question remains: can Cejudo live up to the expectations set by his predecessors? Can he come back after a long layoff and dominate the competition, just as Jones  and St-Pierre did? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure: the world of MMA is in for a treat when Cejudo steps back into the octagon on May 6, 2023.

As fans eagerly await the return of Triple C, the anticipation is palpable. Will he reclaim his status as the king of the bantamweight division? Or will he fall short in his quest for greatness? Whatever the outcome may be, one thing is certain: Cejudo, Jones, and St-Pierre have already carved out their places in the annals of UFC history, and their legacies will endure for years to come.
