Harry Kane: England would be feeling really good. As they started their Euro 2024 qualification campaign with a 2-1 win over Italy. The Three Lions also registered their first away win against Italy SINCE 1961. It was also a memorable day for Harry Kane as the English striker surpassed Wayne Rooney as the Three Lions’ all-time record goal scorer on 54. It was definitely a night that Harry Kane would never forget. Kane was the first to celebrate with Wayne Rooney, when Wazza became England’s record goalscorer back in 2015. Now, Kane has broken the record that Wayne Rooney held all those years back. A crowing moment for a top striker.

But, the funniest incident of the game involving the skipper happened just around the start of the second half. Just two minutes into the second half, Kane, 29, took a ball to the midriff as he helped defend. The blow was quite a hard one and it looked like it took the wind out of his sails for the moment. He went down quickly but landed just behind the byline beside the England penalty area.

Kane showed his presence of mind as he was quick to get back into the field of play, ensuring the game would not restart until he had recovered. However, the way in which he crawled back onto the pitch caught the attention of everyone.

Kane had a superb army-style crawl, which included crashing into a team-mate’s foot as well, as he kept his head down as if he was hiding.

One fan said, ‘Trying to escape from Daniel Levy’s dungeon.’ Another fan said, ‘Blud is trying to sneak out of Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to Allianz Arena.’ A third one added, ‘Brilliant from Kane to crawl back onto the pitch we need that s***housery.’

Harry Kane talking about his record-breaking Goal

After scoring the goal that took him past Wayne Rooney, Kane had a lot of appreciation for everyone involved in his journey. He said, ‘It means everything. It had to be a penalty, and once it hit the back of the net, huge emotion. A magical moment. It is the first time England have won in Italy for a long, long time. To be a part of that is amazing. I just want to say a big thanks to all my team-mates, the staff, the fans, my family back home and my wife.’

He continued, ‘Just a really special night for me and a night I will never forget. I’m just really proud. Thank you to everyone in here and everyone who has made this dream a reality.’

Kane will be hoping to build on the tally as England take on Ukraine in their next Euro 2024 qualification game.
