  1. Rahul Dravid was born on January 11, 1973 in Indore.
  2. Dravid started playing at the early age of 12 and represented Karnataka in U15, U17 and U19 levels. He made his Ranji debut in 1991. He replaced Vinod Kambli on his ODI debut in 1996 against Sri Lanka.
  3. He was the highest run-scorer at the 1999 World Cup (461 runs from 8 games at an average of 65.85).
  4. He is the only Indian to score centuries in four consecutive Test match innings.
  5. He scored 189 runs and shared a remarkable 375 runs stand with VVS Laxman in 2000-01 against Australia after India got all out for 171 in 1st innings. Rahul Dravid’s 233 and unbeaten 72 helped India win a historic Test against Australia in 2003.
  6. He was the first captain to lead India to a Test match victory against South Africa in their backyard.
  7. He has led India in 25 tests & 79 ODIs. Despite losing to Bangladesh in the 2007 World Cup, he gifted two of his bats to the heroes star players Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim.
  8. Dravid was named as the Sexiest Sportsman in 2004 ahead of Yuvraj Singh & Sania Mirza. He was also a part of a prank by the popular MTV Bakra show.
  9. He is highly educated and pursued MBA in St Joseph’s College of Business Administration. He once turned down the honorary doctorate Bangalore University citing he wants to “earn a doctorate degree” rather than receiving an honorary one.
  10. Rahul Dravid is married to Vijeta Pendharkar, a surgeon from Nagpur, on May 4, 2003. He has two sons (Samit born in 2005 & Anvay in 2009).
