The Hamilton weather is unlikely to boost India’s confidence with rain predicted on Sunday. As per Accuweather, there is 91 per cent cloud cover with a forecast of 4 hours of rain. While the threat reduces significantly, expect a shorter game due to loss of overs.

The high-tech drainage systems mean a game could be started shortly after rain should the weather hold sway. The temperature on Sunday is expected to hover between 16 and 18 degrees.

Rain had played its part on this tour. The first T20I was completely a washout. While rain stayed away during the second T20I, the third T20I ended in a tie due to the DLS method.  Fortunately, the first ODI at Auckland didn’t get impacted due to rain as the weather stayed favourable for the entire contest.

However, at Hamilton, rain might come back into the picture. According to AccuWeather, Hamilton is likely to receive heavy showers on Sunday morning. The impact of the rain is likely to decrease as the day progresses. The weather is expected to be cloudy by afternoon with intermittent showers, The temperature is expected to be approximately 16°C with the wind speed at 17 km/h.

IND vs NZ 2nd ODI: Hamilton Pitch Report

The pitch at Seddon Park is batting-friendly, making it a haven for batters. The average ODI score is 240 but recent matches here suggest it is a high-scoring venue.  New Zealand posted 333 on the board batting first against the Netherlands in the last game in Hamilton. Another similar high-scoring contest is on the cards at Hamilton.

In the first ODI at Auckland, Tom Latham slammed an unbeaten 145, while skipper Kane Williamson remained not out on 94. The Kiwis won comfortably with seven wickets to spare to take a 1-0 lead in the series. The Kiwi batting duo also smashed records in a 221-run partnership.  It is the highest-ever partnership for New Zealand against India in ODIs.

The game on Sunday is a do-or-die contest for Dhawan and Co to keep the series alive.
