Tewatia first broke the hearts of PBKS in Sharjah during IPL 2020 season. Struggling for runs initially, the southpaw turned the match on its head by smashing five sixes of Sheldon Cottrell and dashed the hopes of PBKS fans. In IPL 2022 season, Tewatia gave another heartbreak to PBKS, when he smoked Odean Smith for two huge sixes, and scripted a come-from-behind six-wicket victory. And this time Tewatia again provided the finishing touches by scoring an unbeaten five runs off two balls.

Before Tewatia’s heroics, Gill anchored the GT run chase by scoring a sublime 67 runs off 49 balls. Although the right-hand batter could not finish things off, Gill was declared player of the match. Roped in for a quick word during the post-match presentation by Ian Bishop, Gill reflected on his stellar knock but was quick to praise Tewatia for his cool and composure during the last over against Sam Curran.
“I should’ve finished the match. Rahul Tewatia and Kings XI is a love story. In these types of games, there’s definitely pressure on both teams. It’s about trying to minimize dot balls. It was difficult for them also to score runs against old ball. Was important to have a good powerplay,” Gill said.
On account of that terrific win, GT have jumped to the third position in the points table. They have played four games and won three games.
