Gujarat Titans strategy during the IPL 2023 Auction

Before the IPL 2022 auction, the Titans released Jason Roy, Varun Aaron, Gurkeerat Singh and Dominic Drakes. The franchise also traded Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Lockie Ferguson to Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of the auction. The two places that Gujarat Titans will be targeting during the auction, will be to fill the overseas batting options and overseas pace options.

Players Gujarat Titans likely to target during IPL 2023 auctions

Wayne Parnell

The South African all-rounder has prior IPL experience but failed to make an make an impression. Despite IPL faliure he has been consistent performer for the Proteas in the past two years. With Parnell, Gujarat Titans, will have a variation in their attack and he can also contribute with the bat in the lower-order.

Shakib Al Hasan

Bangladesh skipper can bring great value to Titans if they decided to sign him during the IPL 2023 auction. Currently Titans have Rashid Kahn as their leading spinner with R Sai Kishore backing him up in spin department. With Shakib, the IPL champions will have a player at bat at number three or number four. He is likely to be available at a discounted price so he will certainly be a good edition.

Kane Williamson

The former New Zealand skipper may not be a typical attacking T20 batsman but he will add steel to the batting lineup and also bring stability. The Sunrisers Hyderabad made a big decision to release their captain ahead of the IPL 2023 season. Williamson will bring stablity to the middle-order batsman playing the anchor’s role to perfection. With Williamson around, Hardik Pandya and David Miller will have the chance to go after opposition bowlers.

IPL Auction 2023 – Key details

The auction is scheduled for December 23 in Kochi.
The purse value of all teams has been increased by 5 crores, making a total of INR 95 crores for each team.
Out of their total purse value, the franchises need to spend a minimum of 75% during the auction event.
Earlier, from a list of 991 players, a total of 369 players from 10 teams were shortlisted. However, 36 additional players were added to the final list on request of the teams, making a total of 405 players to be presented at the IPL auction.
Out of 405 players, 273 are Indian cricketers, and 132 are overseas, including four from associate nations.
The total capped players are 119, uncapped players are 282 and 4 from associate nations.
A maximum of 87 slots are now available, with up to 30 being allocated for overseas players.
The auction will start at 14:30 IST.
