Gokulam Kerala: Gokulam Kerala EMS Stadium Contract: The Kozhikode Corporation has made the decision not to extend its agreement with Gokulam Kerala FC to use EMS Corporation Stadium. The Kozhikode Corporation is going to withdraw the contract for the EMS Stadium, which Gokulam Kerala FC was previously allowed to use for training. Due to a breach of the maintenance agreement, it is being returned. President of Gokulam Kerala FC VC Praveen, however, criticised the choice. “We (Gokulam) spend nearly ₹8 crores/per year on the team. If Kerala doesn’t need the team, we’ll consider leaving the state”, VC Praveen was quoted saying.

Gokulam Kerala also expressed their discontent over how oblivious the government has been to their achievement. Their women’s football team won the IWL 2023 and secured a place in the AFC Women’s League, however, there has been no regards from the government while their stadium has been taken away at the same time.

The corporation used to provide Gokulam with access to the stadium for training at a fee of Rs 3.40 lakh each year. The contract was for three years. The Corporation, on the other hand, feels Gokulam was unable to maintain the stadium in decent shape.

The stadium’s floodlights were damaged due to inadequate maintenance. There is no cleaning of the stadium or the surrounding region. According to Manorama, there were several rusted and damaged instruments.

The announcement that football will be played at the Super Cup sparked a major problem. Because of the stadium’s poor condition, there were fears that the Super Cup may be relocated from Kozhikode. The stadium was ultimately renovated in a week after great work.

The stadium is being used as a training facility by the Gokulam Football Club. However, football experts stressed that using the stadium set up for games as a training facility is not acceptable. In this situation, the corporation chose to retake the stadium from Gokulam. Former Gokulam Kerala management personnel, on the other hand, alleged that the stadium was in worse condition when they got it on lease.

Following the decision of the Kozhikode Corporation, Manjeri Payyanad stadium has surfaced as a potential site for Gokulam Kerala FC in the Hero I-League next season.At the same time, the Kerala Football Association expressed a desire to maintain the EMS Corporation Stadium. The KFI also indicated that if it is moved to the KFA, it will be able to schedule games and keep the stadium clean all year.
