The hotel staff then informed the police and the player and his partner were then taken to the hospital.

Gianluigi Donnarumma came back to training at PSG after spending his summer vacation. After training at PSG’s new training base on Thursday, he returned home in the VIIIth arrondissement of Paris. At night between July 20th and 21st, robbers broke into their home and proceeded to get the goalkeeper and his partner out of the way. The robbers tied them up, stripped them, and then secluded and hid them. They then went on to rob the house where they took things worth €500,000 and fled the scene.
Donnarumma and Elefante then fled from their home and took shelter in a nearby luxury hotel at around 3:20 AM in the morning. The hotel staff recognised them, gave them refuge, and called the police to inform them about the incident. First aid was administered to the couple who were still in shock. The couple were then taken to the hospital. It was reported later that Donnarumma was only lightly injured, while his partner was unharmed. The Paris prosecutor’s office confirmed that they have opened an investigation.
A spokesperson told BBC, “An investigation has been opened on charges of armed robbery in an organised gang and aggravated violence following the events that took place overnight at Mr. Donnarumma’s place.” The prosecutor’s office also confirmed that Paris Judicial Police’s Banditry Repression Brigade (BRB) have taken charge of the investigation. The unit specialises in burglaries and armed robberies. They solved the robberies that more PSG players previously endured. Other than Donnarumma, Di Maria and Marquinhos were also robbed before.

In March, 2021, robbers broke into both Marquinhos and Di Maria’s homes. Robbers were jailed last January after investigating thoroughly. However, prior to Donnarumma’s incident, each time, the robbers broke into the players’ homes when they were not present. Marquinhos’ home was robbed when his father and two daughters were home, but he was playing. Similarly, Di Maria’s home was robbed when his wife and his two daughters were at home, but he was playing. After the news broke, Di Maria was substituted and around €520,000 worth of stolen goods were looted.
As per reports, Donnarumma will travel to Japan for their pre-season matches tomorrow. He joined PSG back in 2021 and has been serving as their first-choice goalkeeper since then. Even though the player is criticised for his performance in both the national team and in PSG, he never faced something of this calibre before. PSG ultras can be extra and are famous for their threats. However, still, Donnarumma led a safe life in Paris for 2 years since leaving AC Milan as a free agent in 2021.
