As per DCP, Central District, Shweta Chauhan, “Gautam Gambhir has received death threats from ‘ISIS Kashmir’ through e-mail. Security has been beefed up outside Gambhir’s residence.”
Gautam Gambhir was elected as the Lok Sabha MP from east Delhi on a BJP ticket in 2019. He played for India at the international level for 15 years, before announcing his retirement from all forms of cricket in 2018. Gambhir occasionally captained the Indian team, while led the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to two IPL titles during his stint at Eden Gardens.

In a letter to the Central DCP of Delhi, Gambhir stated that he has received a threat email from the handle of ‘ISIS Kashmir’, which read, ‘We’re going to kill you and your family.’ The former Indian batsman, who was part of two World Cup-winning squads, urged the Delhi police to provide adequate security and lodge an FIR into the matter.
This is not the first time Gautam Gambhir has received death threats. Earlier in December 2019, the former Indian opener had approached the Delhi Police, alleging he has received threat calls from an international number. He had also written to the deputy commissioners of Shahdara and Central districts about the complaints and requested better security arrangements.
