Gary Lineker clearly avoided backing down over his controversial tweets and Tim Davie admitted he would not quit. Few stars came out in support after the Match of the Day got short.

BBC director-general Tim Davie called it a difficult day and said: “My job is to serve licence fee- ­payers and I look forward to resolving this situation.”

In the last 24 hours, Alex Scott, Kelly Somers and Jason Mohammad refused to go in front of the camera. It means, two shows (FOOTBALL Focus and Final Score) were canceled. Two other radio shows were pulled. Following these incidents, BCC Director said sorry but clearly stated that he will not resign.

The drama continues as Ian Wright threatened to quit if the BBC got rid of Lineker. He came out in support of his fellow colleague and said, “I’ll tell you something. If they do – the BBC get rid of Gary Lineker – I’m out, I’m gone. I’m not staying there. On his own platform he should be able to say what he wants to say.”


The story now moved to social media and people also started talking about it. Davie wants Lineker to stop posting political messages on social media following his criticism of the Government’s small boats policies. However, Linekar insisted he would carry on as per the sources.

The story reached to British PM Rishi Sunak who wants to see this free speech row in a manner and he feels Government has no role in this matter. It’s part of BBC and Sunak hailed Linekar as England legend but denied backing down on tackling the evil of people traffickers.

The British PM stated: “Forty-five thousand people crossed the channel illegally in the past two years, many of whom have been exploited or trafficked by criminal gangs, putting their lives in danger.”

He also added, “We need to break this cycle of misery once and for all and the policy we set out this week I believe aims to do just that. It is not only the fair and moral thing to do, it is also the compassionate thing to do.”

However, Home Secretary Suella Braverman looked unhappy with the football legend and said they diminished the tragedy of the Holocaust.

Lineker was shocked by BBC’s move but he was also happy with the support he got during this incident. he is ready to have a talk with Davie and he insisted he was keen for the broadcaster to return.

He said: “Success for me is Gary getting back on air. We’ve got the best sports broadcaster in the world. We want to make sure that he can come back.”’

Meanwhile, Davie is clear on his call with no resignation. He also denied that he had any conversation with Linekar since the BBC Saga. Linekar wants to resolve this problem and end this story.
