League of Legends 2025: SEA Server Merge and Seasonal Model Updates

League of Legends 2025: SEA Server Merge and Seasonal Model Updates to Enhance Gameplay and Esports Opportunities.

Riot Games is set to kick off 2025 with a transformative chapter for League of Legends, featuring the much-anticipated Southeast Asia (SEA) server merge and an innovative seasonal model. Both updates underscore Riot’s dedication to delivering seamless gameplay, stronger community engagement, and a more dynamic League of Legends experience for players in India and across SEA.

League of Legends 2025: The SEA Server Merge

The SEA server merge will go live with Patch 15.1 on January 9, 2025, uniting players across Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore/Malaysia, and Indonesia. This integration will create a larger, more vibrant player base, streamlining matchmaking and enhancing gameplay quality.

  • Faster Matchmaking: A unified server means reduced wait times for games and more balanced matchmaking.
  • Improved Latency: Centralised infrastructure will reduce lag for most players across the region.
  • Effortless Transition: Riot IDs, champions, skins, and account progress will automatically transfer, ensuring no interruptions for players.

This server merge will also expand esports opportunities, particularly for regions like India, as the League of Legends Championship Pacific (LCP) incorporates new wild card slots in its Promotion and Relegation (P&R) structure.

Seasonal Model Update: Revolutionising League’s Experience

Launching alongside the server merge, the 2025 seasonal model represents a bold shift in how League delivers content. Players can look forward to three unique seasons annually, each packed with fresh champions, game modes, events, skins, and engaging narratives. The first season will spotlight Noxus, deepening the lore of its legendary champions while unveiling exciting updates such as Viktor’s Visual Gameplay Update (VGU) and the introduction of Atakhan, a new champion bringing fresh strategies to the Rift.

“These updates mark a significant step forward for League of Legends in Southeast Asia,” said Arun Rajappa, Country Manager, India & South Asia, Riot Games. “By merging servers, we’re not only delivering a seamless and more competitive gaming experience but also creating a united community that fosters growth across borders. The SEA server merge allows players to connect with a larger, more diverse pool of competitors while expanding esports opportunities for emerging markets like India. The seasonal model, on the other hand, is designed to reimagine how players experience League of Legends. With three distinct seasons annually, we’re bringing fresh champions, modes, and immersive narratives that will keep players engaged year-round. Together, these updates embody our commitment to shaping the League of Legends ecosystem as a global and inclusive platform for competition, community, and storytelling.”

These updates also align with Riot’s broader vision of elevating SEA’s esports scene. With a unified server, aspiring teams in India and the region will gain more visibility and opportunities to participate in prestigious tournaments like the MSI and Worlds.
