From hospital bed to World Cup debut, Shubman Gill returns for IND vs PAK World Cup clash

The Indian opener made a miraculous recovery from dengue and is now making his World Cup debut in the mega IND vs PAK clash.

Shubman Gill is not 99% available for IND vs PAK World Cup game. He is now 100% available as Rohit Sharma announced the Playing XI after opting to field first at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The Indian opener made a miraculous recovery from dengue and is now making his World Cup debut in the mega IND vs PAK clash.

Till October 11, there was very bleak chance of Gill playing in match against Pakistan. He was discharged from the hospital a night before but it seems former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh’s words worked as magic for him as he made a recovery.

In an interview, Yuvraj Singh revealed that he had a call with Shubman and motivated him to make a quick comeback.

“I did call him and told him, ‘Main do baar dengue mein khela hun, World Cup mein bhi meri tabiyat theek nahi thi. To khadaa ho jaa aur khel because it’s a very important game’ (I’ve played twice with dengue and wasn’t well during the World Cup 2011. So, just get up and play),” Yuvraj told News18

“Anyway he’d played if he was feeling better. But to bounce back from a viral or dengue is really difficult. It sucks everything from your body. I’m he’s really looking forward to playing that game,” he added.

No Ashwin, Team India backs Shardul for IND vs PAK

Shubman Gill replaced Ishan Kishan in the Playing XI and will open alongside Rohit Sharma in the second innings. Inclusion of Gill is the only change Team India have made in the XI for the IND vs PAK. Surprisingly, the Men in Blue have continued with Shardul Thakur for the clash on a track which is likely to assist spinners.

Teams:
India (Playing XI): Rohit Sharma(c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul(w), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj
