Right from the start, the Indian pair started to dominated as they jumped to a 5-0 lead. It was completely a one-way traffic as they comfortably entered the midgame break with 11-6 lead. The same script continued after the break as the India pair won the first game 21-13.
The Taipei pairing needed a good start in the second game and they started off well as they challenged the Indians initially but Chirag and Satwik soon took control of the contest and entered the break with a six-point cushion, leading 11-5. But the Taipei pair made a brilliant comeback as they took control of the game and soon managed to level the scores 14-14.
From then on neck-to-neck battle ensued and both the pairs put on a good challenge against each other. It went on till 19-19 and after that the Indian pair won a lucky net chord and Yang sending one wide from the net. They moved to one match point with a towering smash from Satwik, who sealed it with another attacking return.
The last Men’s Doubles players from India to win the French Open title were Partho Ganguli and Vikram Singh in 1983. But at that time the tournament did not enjoy such standing as it enjoys today.
