French Open 2023: French Open, the year’s second Grand Slam event is all set to get underway from 28th March 2023. The players participating in the Grand Slam event are set to draw a big pay cheque. The organisers of the tournament have announced an increase in the prize money on Friday. The tournament’s total prize money will go up to a total of 49.6 million euros ($54.6 million). In the Singles, the amount is set to be raised by 9.1% from 2022. The Men’s and Women’s Singles Champion especially will fetch a winning prize money of 2.3 million. This is the highest in the tournament’s history. According to a statement from the organisers, the “significantly increased” prize pot is to ensure a more even distribution between players.

French Open 2023 Prize Money Breakdown

  • Champion: €2,300,000
  • Finalist: €1,150,000
  • Semi-Finalist: €630,000
  • Quarter-Finalist: €400,000
  • Fourth Round: €240,000
  • Third Round: €142,000
  • Second Round: €97,000
  • First Round: €69,000

As per the new prize money on offer, losing players in the opening three rounds of the singles draw are set to receive between 11% and 13% more this year. The prize have gone up by an average of 11.8 % in the qualifying rounds. Players losing in the third round of the qualifiers are set to receive €34,000. While Second Round and first round losers in qualifying will receive €22,000 and €16,000 respectively.

The prize money for the men’s and women’s doubles events have also gone up by 4%. The allocation for the wheelchair and quad competition is set at 810,000 euros. This is a whopping 40% increase from the previous edition.

Last year, the winners received 2.2 million Euros in Singles. The total prize money for the tournament last year was 43.6 million Euros which was a 6.8 per cent increase from the pre-pandemic edition of the tournament (2019).

The upcoming edition of the French Open takes place from 28 May to 11 June 2023. Rafael Nadal is the defending champion in Men’s Singles. His participation however lingers in doubtr this year as he is still recovering from a hip flexor injury that hye sustained at the Australian Open earlier this year.
