Nadal defeated Casper Ruud 6-3, 6-3, 6-0 in the French Open summit clash to win his 14th title at the clay court major. Winning the title at the age of 36, Nadal became the oldest-ever French Open champion, surpassing compatriot Andre Gimeno, who won the French Open title in 1972 at the age of 34.
Nadal, who has been suffering from a chronic foot injury over the last year, has been playing after taking anti-inflammatories injections on daily basis. It is said that the 36-year-old tennis star suffers from a rare degenerative condition.
Nadal by his own admission has been playing with considerable pain throughout the Roland Garros tournament. It was believed that with the injury, after winning the French Open, he would call it quits. A senior Spanish jounalist Angel Garcia has claimed that Nadal can announce his retirement after playing Finals since he is ruining his foot by the day.
