Fernando Alonso has won the Formula 1 world championship twice. He has won races for Ferrari, McLaren and Renault. He has 32 wins (and hopefully counting) and more than 2000 points. Yet, his career since 2007 has been a case of what-ifs. The current Aston Martin driver has made several career moves, quite a few of them being ill-fated. Therefore, he will definitely have those doubts himself. Look at what he had to say on the High Performance podcast.
A Career filled with bad moves
Fernando Alonso has had extremely bad luck with his career moves, arguably since 2007. In 2007, he went to a McLaren capable of winning titles but ran into Lewis Hamilton. His move back to Renault in 2008 didn’t work. He went to Ferrari, and his move coincided with Sebastian Vettel’s run with Red Bull. He moved back to McLaren in 2015 for their Honda partnership, and the less we talk about it, the better. Therefore, he could easily have a lot to change in his career.

A World Title with Ferrari
This was the first thing Fernando Alonso mentioned when asked about what he would like to change in hindsight. He came very close to winning the Formula 1 title in 2010 and 2012. In 2012, the challenge was especially tough because the car was nowhere near as fast.
Yet, in both those years, Fernando Alonso lost in the final race to Vettel. Losing a world championship is devastating already. Losing it in the last race twice in three years is doubly so. He was just a few laps away from winning both titles, and this still hurts him.

‘Didn’t enjoy my Career‘
Fernando Alonso, now the oldest driver on the grid, mentioned how he never really enjoyed a lot during his career. He mentioned how he lacks a lot of memories when he looks back. He mentioned his title-winning years and remarked how he doesn’t remember much from those days. Alonso wishes to have more memories from those moments.
This is why Fernando Alonso is enjoying his time now at Aston Martin. He feels comfortable there. He still wants to win another championship. But that’s not his priority right now. He wants to develop the car for Aston Martin and is, finally, living in the moment.
