WATCH Max Verstappen show his drifting skills with ‘Mad’ Mike Whiddett

Max Verstappen just cannot stay away from racing. Read how he learned to drift from ‘Mad’ Mike Whiddett.

Max Verstappen is currently living life on a high. The Red Bull superstar has a comfortable 125-point lead over his teammate Sergio Perez. With just 10 races to go, he looks set to win his 3rd Formula 1 World Championship in a row. He can’t stop racing during the summer break either. The Dutch driver went behind the wheel of a Mazda RX7 with ‘Mad’ Mike Whiddett.

Drift King of Formula 1?

Max Verstappen is not a stranger to drifting on track. For a Formula 1 driver, this seems out of character. In a practice session at Interlagos in 2014, he mesmerized the world with a drift to hold the car on track. This gets more impressive considering he hadn’t even made his Formula 1 debut yet and was just 17 years old.

Max is known to like a car with a lot of oversteer. Therefore, he has had a lot of moments in his career where he has had to save his car. The Dutchman showed immense car control in these moments and has rarely been caught out.

Love for other forms of Motorsport

Max Verstappen loves all kinds of motorsport. He is one of the best sim racers in the world and follows other categories closely. After the Monaco Grand Prix, he was hurrying up the press conference to watch the start of the Indy 500.

Red Bull has a presence in other forms of motorsport. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that Max got behind the wheel of the Mazda RX7. Pro-drifter Mike Whiddett was with him teaching him a few cool tricks.

Unsurprisingly, Max Verstappen was quick to pick up the skills. He started with donuts before moving on to the figure 8. Then, he did the Scandi flick. ‘Mad Mike’ saved the best for last as he introduced the ‘Horner Corner’.

There were cardboard cutouts of the Red Bull Team Principal and Max had to hit their hand. This was the best part of the video, and it has proved to be a huge hit among the fans.
