Toto Wolff led the charge as Mercedes dominated Formula 1 for 8 years. However, like everything else, this came to an end as Max Verstappen began his era at Red Bull. It started with a contentious decision at the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. However, since then, Red Bull and Max Verstappen have hardly broken a sweat as they have swept everything. In a recent interview with Sky Sports, Toto Wolff let some of his saltiness slip.
“Nobody reads that anyway”
Ted Kravitz mentioned that no Mercedes driver was able to achieve what Max Verstappen has done. Toto Wolff was very swift in mentioning that they had two drivers fighting within the team. This meant they took wins off of one another. This was a shade at Red Bull who have often been accused of giving Max Verstappen weaker teammates.
Then, Toto Wolff stated that even Max Verstappen doesn’t care about these numbers. He is probably true in saying this, but that does nothing to hide his jealousy there. He went on to say that these numbers are just for Wikipedia, nobody reads them. This left a lot of Formula 1 fans and pundits a bit perplexed.

Damage Limitation at the Italian GP
Toto Wolff may have been frustrated with the Mercedes car and drivers at the Italian GP. The Mercedes W13 and W14 have both been draggy cars. Therefore, Monza wasn’t supposed to be a good track for them with its high-speed nature. As Red Bull romped away to a dominant 1-2, Mercedes were the third-best team on Sunday with a 5-6 finish.
However, both Mercedes drivers made life difficult for themselves by getting penalties. Lewis Hamilton clipped Oscar Piastri’s front wing. He later apologized for the incident. George Russell however, got a penalty for illegally gaining an advantage over Esteban Ocon. This must have frustrated Toto Wolff since George wasn’t even racing Ocon for position. They just had differing race strategies.
