Sergio Perez to RETIRE from Formula 1 after this year’s Mexican GP: Reports

Sergio Perez is enduring a torrid Formula 1 season at Red Bull in 2023. He has been left in the dust by his teammate Max Verstappen and is fighting to secure 2nd place in the championship.

Sergio Perez is having arguably his worst season in Formula 1. While Max Verstappen is dominating the field in his Red Bull, Sergio Perez is struggling to hold onto 2nd. The pressure is mounting on him every race because of the sheer number of suitors for his seat. Regular comments by Helmut Marko haven’t helped his case either. However, reports are now emerging that he will announce his retirement from Formula 1 after the Mexican GP.

A season deteriorating after every race

Sergio Perez started the season brilliantly. In the first 4 races, he had 2 wins, 1 pole position, and 1 sprint race win. He was only 6 points behind Max Verstappen and looked, on paper, a genuine title challenger.

Insidesport

However, everything changed from Miami. Sergio Perez started on pole, with Max Verstappen starting 9th. Yet, at the end, Max was the one standing on the top step of the podium for Red Bull.

Since this race, Sergio Perez has become a shadow of the racer we all know him to be. He has made consistent mistakes and crashed multiple times. He is just 30 points ahead of Lewis Hamilton in 3rd place with 5 races still to go.

Pressure Mounting

The world of Formula 1 is like a cauldron. And for someone in a team like Red Bull, the heat is much greater. Sergio Perez faces questions about his future on a daily basis. Helmut Marko has done much more than criticize him more than once this year.

Retirement after the Mexican GP

Just recently, Sergio Perez had said how winning the Mexican GP was his second-biggest dream after winning the world championship. However, reports have now emerged that the Red Bull driver is considering retiring from the sport after the Mexican GP.

Just a few years ago in 2020, Sergio Perez put together one of the greatest Formula 1 campaigns of all time under huge pressure. Therefore, it is harrowing to see him wilt under this pressure at Red Bull.
