Sebastian Vettel Calls Out Former Team For ‘Harsh & Brutal’ De Vries Episode

Former Formula 1 Champion Sebastian Vettel has hit back at Red Bull over Nyck De Vries sacking

Formula 1 legend Sebastian Vettel came out in support of Nyck De Vries after his sudden ousting from the Alpha Tauri team earlier this week. Vettel himself gave his services to the Faenza team early in his career. He was soon promoted to Red Bull after getting an exceptional win for the erstwhile Toro Rosso. There, he went on win four consecutive championships with a sheer dominant display on track. He remains on cordial terms with the team and senior management.

However, De Vries’ didn’t get to live his F1 dream for long. After an array of disappointing results, the Red Bull sister team relieved him from his duties. Consequently, his first season as a rookie lasted merely eleven races. The team is currently standing at the rear end of the constructors standing, with just 2 points under the belt so far. Aussie driver Daniel Ricciardo is all set to replace him for the remainder of the season.

Ricciardo is loaned to the Faenza-based team from Red Bull, where he was working in the capacity of a reserve driver. During conducting a test for the team in Silverstone this week, his phenomenal lap times sealed the spot of the Aussie. In a recent interview, Vettel opened up about his thoughts on Ricciardo’s return and De Vries’ departure from the team.

The German himself was there to take a taste of a legendary McLaren machinery, which he will drive at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. After spending well over 15 years in the sport, he has seen every high and low F1 has to offer.

Recently, he opened up about the De Vries debacle and Ricciardo’s return. “I’m very happy for Daniel, very happy. I like him, obviously, I raced with him, and I met him at the test. And I’m very, very happy for him,” said Vettel.

The 53-time race winner said that the sacking of the young Dutchman was harsh and brutal. “On the other hand, you have to be honest as well. It’s obviously a shame for Nyck, the way it comes to an end. I think he was given a great chance.”

“Maybe things didn’t happen for him the way he expected, or people expected. But it’s also a bit harsh when it comes to a very sudden stop like that. It’s brutal,” added the former Red Bull man.
