Saudi Arabia GP: Toto Wolff thinks Lewis Hamilton is a ‘long shot’ from winning the title this year: The team principal of Mercedes, Toto Wolff believes seven-time Formula 1 champion, Lewis Hamilton is a long shot away to win the title this year. Although he finished third in the season opener race, it’s a long way to go in the season ahead. There are still 22 races left in the 2022 season. Toto Wolff said, “If we look at the pecking order today, it seems a very long shot even to think about being in contention for the drivers’ or constructors’ championships.”

“We probably scored the maximum points we could have on Sunday. And we need to take it from there. Every weekend counts. But at the moment we have to be realistic. And when you are third on the road, you cannot think about winning titles.”

This assessment was made after the Bahrain Grand Prix finished. Meanwhile, Red Bull’s two late retirements meant a P3 finish for Lewis Hamilton and a P4 finish for George Russell.

Mercedes at times were second slower than the leaders, and Lewis would have likely finished fifth. But, Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez had a fuel pump issue which saw both the Red Bull drivers bow out of the race.

However, one major problem which Mercedes still faced in the Bahrain Grand Prix was Porpoising. It is a phenomenon of the car bouncing hard on its suspension. It has been a major problem for Lewis Hamilton and George Russell as they both finished behind a Ferrari-dominated race.
