Red Bull Boss Christian Horner admits nerve-wracking wait for big change in 2026

Red Bull Boss Christian Horner admits nerve-wracking wait for big change in 2026

For the first time in their motorsport history, Red Bull will be making its own engines in any category. Christian Horner is, admittedly, unsettled and excited about this challenge.

Red Bull is one of the modern greats in Formula 1. After their initial few seasons, they have always been near the top. Currently, they are dominating the sport like no one else has, with the combination of Max Verstappen and the RB19. However, throughout their existence, they have been a customer team. That will change from the 2026 season as Red Bull will start making their own engines in partnership with Ford. Christian Horner is rightly excited as well as nervous about this new challenge, as reported by Motorsport.

Not an Easy Task

Christian Horner has rightly said that this is not an easy task. Making any engine is extremely complicated. Making a Formula 1 engine increases that complexity by multiple magnitudes. Red Bull have undertaken that challenge and have found a partner in Ford for it.

“Keep Evolving”

Christian Horner was asked about the success Red Bull and Max Verstappen found with Honda. He said, “Yeah, but that’s life, isn’t it? Nothing lasts forever. You just got to keep evolving.”

“Don’t want this season to stop”

Christian Horner is enjoying Red Bull and Max Verstappen’s success in Formula 1. He doesn’t want the season to stop. However, he definitely knows that nothing lasts forever, having been dethroned by Mercedes after the Vettel years.

Christian Horner said, “At the moment we don’t want this season to stop. But 2026, it’s the next chapter for us, and it’s taking control of the one bit of variable that we’ve had.”

“I don’t think people perhaps comprehend the scale of the challenge that we’ve taken on for 2026. But the way the team is attacking it is exactly the same way that we have with the chassis.”

“100 Weeks”

After the departure of Honda, Red Bull and Christian Horner have found an ally in Ford. Ford brings a similar pedigree to the table.

Christian Horner said, “We’ve got two years which seems like a long way away, but we’ve pretty much got 100 weeks now to when we’re rolling down the pitlane with a Red Bull-designed and manufactured engine in the back of the car. So that’s nerve-wracking and exciting all at once.”
