Mark Webber says people would praise Red Bull more if they were a manufacturer

Ex-Red Bull driver Mark Webber thinks people would appreciate them more if they were manufacturers in Formula 1.

Red Bull, under Christian Horner, currently sits alone at the top of F1. It has produced a car in a league of its own. Adrian Newey has designed a beast. And a monster by the name of Max Verstappen is driving it. They have broken all-time records in the sport, and don’t look like stopping anytime soon. Their former driver, Mark Webber, thinks that people would respect them more if they were a manufacturer.

Red Bull’s records

At the Canadian Grand Prix this year, Red Bull became just the 5th team in F1 history to achieve 100 race wins. The only others are legendary teams like Ferrari, McLaren, Mercedes, and Williams. Red Bull has become a part of this elite company through sheer hard work.

Coming to 2023, Red Bull with Max Verstappen has broken all kinds of records. They have achieved the most wins in a row, the most wins in a row in a season, and the best start to a season by a manufacturer. These are eye-watering numbers and something which may take a few decades to dismantle, if at all.

A Shaky Start, and the rise to the top

Like every team, Red Bull had a shaky start as it found its feet in F1. Christian Horner was steadfast in his approach. But the entire paddock saw them as this party team because they were owned by an energy drink manufacturer. They started gaining respect when they got Adrian Newey to join.

Then, their run of 4 consecutive double world championships cemented their place in F1 history. While it was Sebastian Vettel who headlined their dominance, a key element was Mark Webber. The gritty Australian came close to winning the title in 2010, losing it in Abu Dhabi.

Mark Webber believes their temperament and their commitment is the key to their success. People thought that the death of Dietrich Mateschitz would shake their commitment to the sport. But now, Red Bull are poised to be engine manufacturers for the first time in their history. Clearly, the Milton Keynes team is here to stay.
