Lewis Hamilton extends his support to Maui, Jeff Bezos responds

Lewis Hamilton is well-known outside F1 due to his various ventures. A lot of those ventures are aimed at helping others in various ways. Recently, he has teamed up with Amazon’s Jeff Bezos to help the people affected by the Maui Fires.

Lewis Hamilton, like Michael Schumacher, has transcended the world of F1. He has managed to make a name for himself outside of the sport. The Mercedes man has done it via various business ventures as well as by aligning himself with various social causes. Increasing diversity, tackling discrimination, and promoting talent; he has undertaken all of these via various missions and commissions. Moreover, he and Toto Wolff have managed to convince other F1 teams to do so as well. His latest call to action has been teaming up with multi-billionaire Jeff Bezos to help Maui.

Maui Struck by Wildfires

Maui has been struck by wildfires that have ravaged the small island in Hawaii. While a lot of celebrities have holiday homes there, not many have come up to help. Jeff Bezos, however, is not one of them. The former richest man in the world has donated a whopping $100 million in relief funds for the region.

In a story on Instagram, Lewis Hamilton called for attention to the sorry state of affairs. He stated how heartbroken he is, and asked his followers to keep them in their thoughts and prayers.

Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes have collaborated to make F1 more inclusive. They have even convinced other teams to join in their missions. They aim to find out the root causes of F1 being dominated by Caucasians and males. Then they aim to rectify those shortcomings at the grassroots level.

When Lewis Hamilton entered, he was the first man of African descent to race in the sport. 16 years and 7 world championships later, he is still the only one to do so. F1 is becoming an increasingly popular sport across the globe.

People keep talking about the importance of an American driver for the sports’ popularity in America. We have seen the rise in interest of German and Dutch fans with Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel, and Max Verstappen. If F1 wants to become a truly global sport, it will have to embrace diversity. And Lewis Hamilton will play a big role in that.
