Las Vegas GP doesn’t impress former Formula 1 Boss Bernie Ecclestone

Former Formula 1 head honcho Bernie Ecclestone isn’t impressed by the Las Vegas GP. His reasons are something to ponder.

Formula 1 and Liberty Media are marketing the Las Vegas GP as the biggest show on earth. They have put a lot of their eggs into this one basket and they are hoping it pays off. However, just like everything else, this show has a lot of detractors too. The fans are already dubbing it as ‘more entertainment than sport’. Max Verstappen has given his honest opinion about the event as well. And now, former F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone is having his say.

“Nothing to do…”

Bernie Ecclestone handed the reigns of Formula 1 over to Liberty Media in 2017. Since then, he has consistently found a way to grab the headlines of the Formula 1 world. While some were deliberate, others were not. In his recent interview with Dutch Publication NOS, he gave his opinions on the Las Vegas GP.

According to Bernie Ecclestone, the Las Vegas GP is not about the sport, it is about the show. He said, “I’m not really looking forward to it. Why not? It has nothing to do with Formula 1.”

“I am the one…”

Bernie Ecclestone also believes that it was him, not Liberty Media, who brought Formula 1 to the entire world. The Las Vegas GP is another step in that direction.

He said, “I am glad that the sport continues to develop around the world.”

“I am the one who took Formula 1 out of Europe and brought it to the rest of the world.”

“We are competing for a world championship, not a European championship. It’s good that it stays that way.”

Interest Waning for the Las Vegas GP

As Formula 1 and Liberty Media continue to hype up the Las Vegas GP, the numbers tell a different story. The public opinion of the event has shifted drastically due to the changes the city has had to make.

Moreover, the sky-high ticket prices have started to drop dramatically as we inch closer to the Las Vegas GP. One of the biggest factors for this is the Max Verstappen dominance. Nobody wants to spend an astronomical amount of money to go and watch Max Verstappen win another race.
