  • The FP2 session ends.

  • George Russell goes fastest after setting a lap time of 1m.19.457s. Charles Leclerc is second after setting a lap time of 1m.19.740s. Sergio Perez is third after setting a lap time of 1m.19.790s.

  • Still no eye-catching lap times from the Ferrari pair, with Carlos Sainz ninth and Charles Leclerc 10th and back in the garage.

  • Christian Horner says, “As soon as that red light goes out, they are going to go for it. I’d expect the first few laps to be quite interesting. And then is there going to be deg [degradation] or not, the last few laps might be interesting.”

  • Sergio Perez goes fastest after setting a lap time of 1m.19.878s. George Russell is second after setting a lap time of 1m.19.956s. Lewis Hamilton is third after setting a lap time of 1m.19.992s.
  • A double dose of bad news at McLaren following Ricciardo’s earlier issue: “We’re investigating a brake system issue on Lando’s car which will require some time in the garage. We’re aiming to get back out before the end of the session.”
  • Sergio Perez goes fastest after setting a lap time of 1m.19.878s. Max Verstappen is second after setting a lap time of 1m.20.548s. Alex Albon is third after setting a lap time of 1m.20.528s.

  • Sergio Perez goes fastest after setting a lap time of 1m.20.447s. Max Verstappen is second after setting a lap time of 1m.21.078s. Pierre Gasly is third after setting a lap time of 1m.21.395s.
  • Lewis Hamilton goes fastest after setting a lap time of 1m.21.880s.
  • Bad news for Daniel Ricciardo from McLaren: “The team is investigating an issue on Daniel’s car which will delay his start to FP2. We hope to resolve the issue and get the car out before the end of the session.”
  • Now Lando Norris goes fastest after setting a lap time of 1m.23.821s.
  • Guanyu Zhou goes fastest after setting a lap time of 1m.24.826s.
  • Mick Schumacher, Guanyu Zhou, George Russell, Sebastian Vettel, and Lewis Hamilton are also out on the track in the opening two minutes.
  • Lance Stroll is out on the track very early on the medium tyres.
  • The FP2 session gets underway.

So far, Red Bull and Ferrari have looked the strongest. Max Verstappen finished on pole in the qualifying session for the sprint, with Charles Leclerc taking second place. Interestingly, McLaren have improved leaps and bounds as Lando Norris finished P3 while Daniel Ricciardo finished P4.

Besides the Papaya, Haas also has done a good job here at Imola. Kevin Magnussen qualified P4, which happens to be the best qualifying result for any Haas driver. As for those who failed to live up to expectations, Mercedes comes first as neither of their two drivers qualified for Q3 for the first time since 2012. George Russell ended up at P11 and Hamilton finished at P13. It will be interesting to see how they do in FP 2.
