Formula 1: Lando Norris battled through Tonsillitis in Spanish GP: McLaren’s Lando Norris missed the post-media sessions in Barcelona as he went for medical check-ups, after being diagnosed with tonsilitis. Following the race, McLaren released a statement that read “Lando, unfortunately, won’t be attending the post-race media pen as he is being checked by our team doctor. He has been feeling unwell throughout the weekend and while cleared to race, with the extraordinary heat today, the team are now ensuring he is receiving a full health check.”

Despite the scorching heat at the Spanish Grand Prix, and his own physical troubles, Norris did an incredible job to take his MCL36 from eleventh on the grid to a possible P8. Lando finished the full 66 laps to complete four spots higher than partner Daniel Ricciardo, who began 10th.

“Today was tough. I was feeling really unwell before the race as I’m suffering with tonsillitis, and that, in combination with the high temperatures, made this one of the hardest races I’ve ever done,” Norris added.
“I’ve been a bit on the back-foot this weekend as most of my energy has been spent fighting off this illness. I’ve had to miss a lot of engineering sessions, which has compromised my weekend, and I definitely wasn’t as prepared for the Grand Prix as I could have been. With that in mind, I’m really pleased to have come out of the race with decent points for the team,” he further added.

This result meant that Lando Norris now sees himself down in the seventh spot in the Drivers standings with 39 points to his name. It was not an ideal race for McLaren as they only scored 4 points in Barcelona.
McLaren has some thinking to do as the Monaco Grand Prix is scheduled next week. They will be hoping that the young Brit is fully fit before the race and is raring to go out and score some hefty points for the team. Meanwhile, McLaren sees itself down in the fourth spot and leading the midfield battle with 50 points to their name.
