The Mercedes camp was furious and they made clear how angry they were with Masi for allowing the safety car to withdraw. With this call, Hamilton had a disadvantage as he was on hard tyres which were too old as he pitted last in the 14 lap. Meanwhile, Verstappen changed his tyres to a new soft compound.

A lot of teams came in support of Masi other than Mercedes itself. Even drivers like Daniel Ricciardo, Lando Norris and Sebastian Vettel were backing the race director. But the new FIA president, Mohammed Ben Sulayem is said to be ‘less certain’ of the need to axe the Australian.

If Michael Masi is sacked of his post, then it will mean that the 2021 championship result went wrong. Hamilton has been long insisting that he was robbed of the title. If he would have won, he would certainly go past Michael Schumacher’s record of seven titles.

Eduardo Freitas can replace Michael Masi if the Australian is sacked. The Formula 1 fans from all around the world are waiting for the outcome of FIA’s investigation which will be released today.

Toto said, “I expect actions and not just words. In our sport, we can’t freestyle like that with the set of rules. Before the start of the new season, there should be clarity about the rules. So that every driver, team and fans what is allowed and what isn’t. We do provide entertainment, but no decision should break the rules for the sake of the show.”

Toto Wolff even suggested that Mercedes would like to work with FIA ‘to do better’ in the future. He added, “It is very deep. Lewis, I and the whole team are disillusioned. We love the sport because it’s honest. The stopwatch never lies.”

“But if you break the fundamental principle of fairness then the stopwatch is no longer going to be relevant. If this happens, then everybody will doubt the sport. All your work, blood, sweat, and tears can be taken away from you. It will take a long time to digest it and I don’t think we’ll ever get over it, especially Lewis. At least we can try together with FIA to do much better in the future.”

The new F1 season will start from 20th March in Bahrain and the season will end on November 20th at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
