For Esteban Ocon, it was pure excitement to work alongside two-time Formula 1 champion, Alonso. But Ocon went into the partnership with a few questions given on the reputation of Alonso.

But Esteban Ocon found Alonso as a great personality who has a huge temperament.
The team-mates finished the 2021 season P10 and P11 in the Drivers’ standings. Fernando Alonso scored 81 points and Esteban Ocon with 74 points to his name.

Esteban Ocon said, “A lot of people said it was very difficult to work with Alonso. He had a reputation for breaking teammates and stuff like that. I wanted to see for myself what people are saying is true or not, and in the end, it wasn’t. He is a hell of a racer, extremely fast and the fastest team-mate I have in a while. I’m happy working with him.”
It was Fernando Alonso who held up Lewis Hamilton and made sure Esteban Ocon wins his first Grand Prix in Hungary last season.

Ocon further added, “My teammate was absolutely incredible.” Even Alpine’s Alan Permane said it was Alonso’s defense that was ‘crucial’ for Ocon’s win.
Ocon further asserted, “I have learned a lot alongside him. His out-of-the-way thinking, where some drivers or even the team would not think about. Pushing the limit to strategies or how we can optimize everything, I’ve definitely learned a lot. Also the racecraft, I have picked quite a few things by looking at his first laps. This is something which I used to do and have been following what he does. Towards the latter part of the season, I was just gaining positions and I was even doing good in first laps.”
It doesn’t end here as Ocon finally summed up by saying, “It has been a privilege to work alongside a legend like him.”
