For a long time, numerous Florida residents have since been against the Grand Prix on the grounds of ‘intolerable’ noise pollution. With only half a month to go and the last arrangements occurring at the circuit around the Hard Rock Stadium, authorities are not surrendering the battle to have it canceled.

As reported by the Miami Herald, a claim from Miami Gardens residents, led by Betty Ferguson who was the previous Miami-Dade County Commissioner, is trying to block the Grand Prix.

A decision is set to be made one week from now. Albeit the Miami Herald statement Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Alan Fine as having communicated ‘dissatisfaction’ that a decision should be made in such a tight time span.

The reason for the resident’s claim is that the noise from the race would ‘make serious interruption and actual damage Miami Gardens inhabitants’. They quote an engineering company’s gauge that clamor of possibly 97 decibels for homes up to a distance of 2.5 miles from the circuit would be capable ‘Like the sound levels created by a chainsaw’.

The Grand Prix is as yet anticipating the giving of its special events permit by the city. Judge Fine said, “Numerous courts before me have resisted the temptation to jump into something that hasn’t been issued yet. Shouldn’t I wait to see if the city manager issues the special events permit?”

“We are in this limbo state prior to the issuance of a special events permit. It’s a very uncomfortable place for a court to be.”

Sam Dubbin, a lawyer for the residents, claims it isn’t important to wait for the permit to be granted. Sam said, “They live in a bedroom community and they are entitled to protection under the law.”
